One of our Fourth of July traditions is to make a birthday cake for America. We decorate a sheet cake or an ice cream cake with white icing, strawberries and blueberries to make it look like a flag. This really helps the kids understand what in the world we are celebrating amidst all the explosions!
This year we are forgoing the birthday cake since I don't even have my cake pans unpacked yet and there has been no time to get our usual massive firework stockpile prepared. The neighborhood we just moved into is having a bike parade that the kids are excited about and I am loving the 1950's feel of. We will watch some fireworks from afar, cook some good food, get to know our new neighbors and thank God for new beginnings in our lives as we celebrate the beginning of this country!
