So far my kids main memory of Easter has been of the mad dash to scoop up as much candy as they can as fast as they can while a throng of other children try to do the same – Yep that's right, the yearly Easter egg hunt (dash) at church.
We will be enjoying this crazy mayhem of a tradition again in a few days, but this year it is more important than ever for me to dwell on and appreciate the new life that Easter celebrates. It's been a hard, sad winter and I am thankful for new beginnings. I wanted a way to help my kids focus on the new life God gives us and to be thankful for the beautiful world that is blooming and coming to life around them – instead of the "just get more candy, me me me" mentality…
So we made little Easter bags and handed them out to our friends in the neighborhood. The kids had a blast filling a plastic egg and putting it and some Easter basket grass in little individual colored bags for each of their friends. (of course they snuck a few pieces of candy too:) I printed up some simple little tags with an Easter message and attached them with little bows and colored staples. I got all the supplies at Micheal's for a few bucks.
My boys were so cute running around the neighborhood with their baskets of treats. They were so excited to share them with friends and kept telling me for days how much it made them happy! Mission complete on learning a little generosity and battling the selfish bug 🙂 I plan to make this a yearly tradition
